The Cansiglio woods of Serenissima

For almost three centuries, the Bosco (woods) del Cansiglio supplied the Casa dell’Arsenale with the beech drums with which the long oars of the galleys, the famous Venetian ships, were built. The Cansiglio, which is one of the most beautiful woods in Italy, was the ancient "oar" forest of the Serenissima, because its trees were registered and cut only for the shipyards of Venice and in particular they were used to build the oars of Venetian ships.
